Study: 99% of Healthcare.Gov Zip Codes Saw Increased Consumer Demand in 2015

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- HealthPocket examined over 14,000 zip codes with more than 50 health insurance selections for enrollment on the Healthcare.gov marketplace and found that 99% of them experienced increases in 2015 as compared to 2014. However, among the 50 zip codes that had fewer consumer plan selections in 2015, 41 of them were located in the state of Michigan. The remaining nine zip codes with lower demand were in New Hampshire (two zip codes), Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Mississippi, Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, and New Mexico.

Zip code 48204 in Detroit had a 31% drop in healthcare.gov plan selections in 2015 as compared to 2014, the largest percentage drop of any zip code examined. Detroit also had the distinction of encompassing half the zip codes within the list of 50 zip codes with decreased consumer demand for health insurance on Healthcare.gov. Population decreases likely contributed to the drop in Detroit's health insurance plan selections for 2015. Detroit's population has been declining at an average rate of 7,500 people per year since 2010.
