Students to Comment on Unrecoverable Student Loans
OTTAWA, Feb. 19, 2015 /CNW/ - Representatives of the Canadian Federation of Students will be available for comment on the federal supplementary spending estimates.
Today's Treasury Board proposal to write off approximately $300 million in unrecoverable student loans brings the total spent on unpaid student debt to more than $1 billion in the past four years.
"The student loan system is unsustainable and record-level debt has long-term, destructive effects on students, their families, and the economy," Said Jessica McCormick, National Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students.
The Canadian Federation of Students is composed of over one-half million students across the country from more than 80 university and college students' unions. Post-secondary students in Canada have been represented by the Canadian Federation of Students and its predecessor organisations since 1927.
