Students, Parents to Explore Options and Celebrate Strengths at School Choice Week School Fair
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 500 people will be treated to student musical and artistic performances, plus remarks by parents, students, and community leaders – including Sen. Scott Hammond and Brian Scroggins, Interim Executive Director of the Nevada State Public Charter School Authority– at the Las Vegas School Fair, which runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at MEET Las Vegas.
At the fair, parents will be able to visit about 50 booths where representatives from public, magnet, charter, private schools and homeschooling will share information about their organizations. The event is designed to help parents find schools that best fit their children's needs.
This fair is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2019, which will feature more than 40,000 school choice events across all 50 states.
"In a state where we desperately need more educational options, a school fair brings more resources to the community and connects them to public and private school options, including the Opportunity Scholarship, which gives financially struggling families more access to an education that best fits their needs," said Valeria Gurr, Nevada state director for the American Federation for Children.
Activities include a DJ, a mariachi performance by students at Rancho High School, remarks from Sen. Scott Hammond, a parent's school choice story, music, and a raffle.
MEET Las Vegas is located at 233 S. 4th Street.
The fair is planned by the Nevada School Choice Coalition, a project of the American Federation for Children.
As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country. From January 20 through 26, 2019, more than 40,000 independently-planned events will be held in celebration of the Week. For more information, visit www.schoolchoiceweek.com.
