Students First Commends Sam Rohrer and Americans for Prosperity for Recognizing the Urgency in Protecting Pennsylvania's Most Vulnerable Children
PITTSBURGH, May 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- This week, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) submitted a statement on the fight for school choice in Pennsylvania. Most importantly, the statement recognized the need of passing a bill by the end of June to immediately save our most needy children, those trapped in failing, violent schools, while also acknowledging the need for continued discussion on the details of school choice.
Although Students First recognizes that AFP supports a limited Senate Bill 1, we commend Sam Rohrer and AFP for recognizing the urgency in the need to come to the aid of Pennsylvania's most vulnerable children, those who are trapped in failing schools. We agree on who is most important in our fight -- the children who are currently being deprived of the quality education necessary for them to flourish and become productive, successful members of our community as adults.
Dawn Chavous, Students First's Executive Director, stated, "Students First strongly agrees with AFP that Senate Bill 1 must be passed by June 30 to ensure that no more valuable time is lost for these children, as we continue our ongoing efforts to expand vouchers and choice for Pennsylvania parents. This can be accomplished without raising taxes -- and will benefit all of our children."
