Student of Liver And Vascular Surgery of West China Hospital of Sichuan University Addresses The 18th ILTS Annual Meeting in the United States
CHENGDU, China, May 25, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Recently, Wang Qiao, the eight-year program student of Liver and Vascular Surgery of West China Hospital tutored under Yan Lynan, went to San Francisco to attend the 18th ILTS (International Liver Transplantation Society) annual meeting with the director of his department, Mr. Li Bo.

The theme of the meeting is "The Pros and Cons Trade-Off for Liver Transplantation", and specialists from all over the world had in-depth exchanges on the current development and challenges for liver transplantation and expressed great interest on the progress that the Liver and Vascular Surgery of West China Hospital has achieved in this field. Wang Qiao gave a speech on "The Treatment for Children With Congenital Biliary Atresia by Living Donor Liver Transplantation" (Topic: "Can primary living donor liver transplantation be the first line treatment for patients with Biliary Atresia") in the Pediatric session and also participated in a panel discussion. His speech attracted the wide attention of scholars in this field. After the meeting, the authorities in pediatric liver transplantation, Professor Mcdiamid and Professor Venick, both from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) exchanged views with the representatives from West China Hospital on the development of the pediatric liver transplantation in China and the prospect of treatment for children with Biliary Atresia. During the meeting, Wang Qiao was also invited to join the "Young Pioneer Committee" (the Vanguard committee) and discussed with the young generation of surgeons, anesthesiologists and physician from different countries about the difficult cases and had other multidisciplinary academic exchanges.
