Student leaders to gather at Lynn University for sixth annual Millennium Campus Conference
Oct. 10-12 conference addresses global poverty through youth empowerment
BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lynn University will continue its tradition of hosting important conversations when it welcomes the Millennium Campus Conference (MCC) this Oct. 10-12. The three-day event, established by the Millennium Campus Network (MCN), brings together youth leaders from nearly 60 nations in an effort to elevate discussions about global development and social issues related to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
"From our nationally praised core curriculum, the Dialogues of Learning, to the final 2012 presidential debate, important conversations are happening every day at Lynn," said Lynn President Kevin M. The conference, now in its sixth year, unites hundreds of highly involved student leaders from around world who are committed to advocating for change within their own student organizations and across global development areas. Youth leaders will explore key concepts in international development and share feedback and engage with each other through event debates, panels, discussions and experiential learning programs featuring Lynn faculty, senior executives from the world's largest not-for-profit organizations and other celebrated guests.
Agenda highlights include:
- Change the World Fair, Saturday, 1-3 p.m.: Youth leaders will explore service opportunities from local and national organizations including GlobeMed, U.S. Fund for UNICEF, USAID, and local organizations including Boca Helping Hands.
- Keynote and Global Generation Awards, Saturday, 7:30-10 p.m.: This celebration of campus activism will honor global leaders who champion sustainable international development. Award winners include actress and Oxfam global ambassador and patron for the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Kristin Davis, The New York Times columnist and published author Nicholas Kristof and Partners in Health founder Dr. Paul Farmer, who was just in Liberia to tackle the Ebola outbreak.
- Closing Ceremony and Policy Presentation, Sunday, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.: A global live stream will connect MCC participants with youth leaders from Iraq, Liberia and Morocco who will share first-hand experiences about how youth organize to address national challenges. Student delegates will also present preliminary results of the Global Youth Survey and conference achievements, upon which a panel including a former U.N. official and a senior official from the U.S. government.

"Previous award recipients include Secretary of State John Kerry, 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner Leymah Gbowee and fashion designer Kenneth Cole. Feedback from the MCC student sessions will be combined with data from the Global Youth Survey, which documents the strengths and needs of youth organizations changing the world across 30 nations, and will be presented later this year to the White House, State Department and private sector leaders. This year's conference will also celebrate the U.N. International Day of the Girl Child, and invites leaders from higher education to participate in a parallel executive track.
