Three-year Agreement Amplifies Stryker Mobility Zone Presence at PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions Events
MAHWAH, N.J., March 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Stryker Orthopaedics and the PGA TOUR® announced a continuation of their relationship that designates Stryker as the "Official Joint Replacement Products of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions." Through this extension, Stryker will expand its tournament presence on both the PGA TOUR and on PGA TOUR Champions, while advancing its commitment to the health and well-being of golf fans by educating them on the importance of joint health.
Throughout the 2016 season, Stryker will engage with golf fans around the country at 11 PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions events. At these tournaments, fans can stop by the Stryker Mobility Zone, the premiere on-site joint health destination, to learn about hip and knee pain, as well as treatment options. By featuring engaging and interactive activities within the enhanced layout, the company is aiming to continue to educate fans on the importance of keeping hips and knees healthy, not only on the golf course, but in everyday activities. Stryker's message to fans is simple: You don't have to be sidelined by joint pain, talk to your doctor. It's your move.
"The ability to educate thousands of fans across the country over the last two years about joint health and treatment options has been a great experience for Stryker," said Bill Huffnagle, President, Reconstructive Division, Stryker. "To be able to make a connection between fans and the brand, engage them in conversation, and facilitate having their questions answered by local orthopaedic surgeons has truly helped Stryker to live up to our mission which is, together with our customers, we are driven to make healthcare better."
Stryker is taking its commitment one step further this year with the introduction of the Stryker Challenge. Through this new interactive platform, the company will invite fans to participate in various activities and to answer questions relating to joint health, mobility and golf. By participating in the Stryker Challenge, on-site fans are automatically entered to win a trip for two to TPC® Sawgrass to play alongside two former TOUR winners, Fred Funk and Hal Sutton – both longstanding ambassadors for the Stryker brand.
"Since joining as an Official Marketing Partner in 2014, Stryker has been actively engaging fans at tournaments through the popular Stryker Mobility Zone," said PGA TOUR Chief Commercial Officer Tom Wade. "Stryker continues to be an innovative leader in medical technology and joint replacement, an area that has directly benefited PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions members. We are extremely pleased to continue this relationship and look forward to working with Stryker's team to expand its presence on both the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions."
Additionally, veteran Stryker Ambassadors and golfers, Fred Funk and Hal Sutton, both recipients of Stryker joint replacement products, will remain ambassadors for the brand.
Funk, a Stryker brand ambassador since 2011, is one of the most recognizable names and personalities in professional golf. During his career, which spans more than 20 years, Funk has won eight titles on the PGA TOUR, including THE PLAYERS Championship in 2005, and six titles on the PGA TOUR Champions, including the 2009 U.S. Senior Open. Funk underwent total knee replacement in November 2009 and received Stryker's GetAroundKnee. He won the Regions Tradition the following season, becoming the first player ever to win a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event after total knee replacement surgery.
Sutton, whose 14 PGA TOUR victories include the 1983 PGA Championship and THE PLAYERS Championship in 1983 and 2000, has been a Stryker brand ambassador since 2013. In 2012, at age 54, after speaking with his doctor and exploring hip replacement options, Sutton made the decision to undergo a total left hip replacement and received Stryker's Mobile Bearing Hip™. One year later, he received a matching Stryker Mobile Bearing Hip on the right side.
