Stroz Friedberg Opens New Office and Digital Forensics Lab in Seattle
Scott Stein, former Cyber Crime Prosecutor and Microsoft Senior Attorney, to Lead Office as Stroz Friedberg Expands West Coast Presence
NEW YORK, Dec. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Stroz Friedberg, LLC, a global digital risk management and investigations firm, announces the opening of a new office and state-of-the-art digital forensics laboratory in the city of Seattle. Stroz Friedberg now operates via nine office locations worldwide. The Seattle team, led by Managing Director Scott Stein, will expand the firm's West Coast presence and offer expert capabilities in digital forensics, electronic discovery, data breach, cybercrime response, and business intelligence.
"Broadening our geographic scope and acquiring additional best-in-class talent is exactly the type of momentum we envisioned when we partnered with our investors at New Mountain Capital," said James Aquilina, Stroz Friedberg Executive Managing Director and Deputy General Counsel, who leads the firm's West Coast operations. "Our Seattle professionals will work closely with our existing San Francisco and Los Angeles offices to ensure our clients along the West Coast – and throughout the world – receive the highest standard of service."
Stroz Friedberg's move into Seattle is a result of greater global demand among corporations, law firms and government agencies for data recovery, incident response and investigative services. In the fall of 2010, this growing trend was the catalyst for private equity firm New Mountain Capital's $115 million investment into Stroz Friedberg's strategic growth. Over the past year, Stroz Friedberg broadened its service offerings to include forensic accounting, security risk consulting and digital governance. The firm's development plans will further focus on entry into the Middle East and Asia, plus additional offices in key European and U.S. cities.
"Seattle is a technology hub for the U.S., and therefore a breeding ground for new developments in the cyber and digital landscape," Mr. Stein said. "Stroz Friedberg is committed to providing leading technology corporations – and those firms that help support them – technical assistance and strategic advice to address the cutting edge of law, policy and technology. We look forward to operating in this great community, and working with Seattle's local businesses."
Mr. Stein previously worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. There, he prosecuted and managed a myriad of criminal investigations, such as network intrusions, digital theft of intellectual property, internet fraud, child pornography and other white collar and online crimes.
Before joining Stroz Friedberg, Mr. Stein was a senior attorney at Microsoft Corporation, where he helped address vital issues related to the Communications for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, National Security, and Federal Regulatory Compliance. He also directed a team of Microsoft cyber investigators who focused on preventing, detecting and resolving intricate computer crimes ranging from viruses and worms to botnets and spyware.
Mr. Stein will initially oversee a team of seven people, with plans to double the office size in two years.
