Stroz Friedberg Appoints Former Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey Rabkin as Vice President
Expanded West Coast Presence Brings Top-Level Experience to Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Global digital risk management and investigations firm Stroz Friedberg today announced that Jeffrey Rabkin has joined the firm as Vice President in the company's San Francisco office.
In his new role, Mr. Rabkin will direct corporate investigations, security risk assessments and complex eDiscovery engagements, oversee a range of cyber and digital forensic investigations stemming from data breaches to online fraud and abuse, and assist the firm's incident response team. An accomplished trial lawyer and investigator, Mr. Rabkin brings over a decade of experience leading civil litigation and criminal proceedings in both state and federal courts. Mr. Rabkin's background in government and law allows him to collaborate effectively with federal, state and local regulatory agencies, as well as domestic law enforcement and international authorities.
"Jeff's investigative and prosecutorial experience will be a tremendous asset to our firm," says David Garrett, managing director of Stroz Friedberg's San Francisco office. "He enhances our seasoned team's ability to respond quickly and effectively to the digital risks our clients regularly face."
Mr. Rabkin formerly served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the U.S. Attorney's Offices in the Eastern District of New York and the Northern District of California. As an AUSA, he led numerous high-profile, sensitive investigations and prosecutions involving corporate fraud, mortgage fraud, ponzi schemes, money laundering, forfeiture of unlawfully earned proceeds, public corruption and large-scale identity theft. His expertise further extended to trying notorious cases involving murder-for-hire and RICO charges. Notably, Mr. Rabkin was at the helm of one of the Department of Justice's most significant corporate fraud cases arising from the 2008 financial crises in which former executives of a failed commercial bank were charged with securities fraud, falsifying corporate books, and lying to external auditors, allegedly resulting in the loss of billions of government dollars.
Before serving as a federal prosecutor, United States District Judge Shira A. Scheindlin named him Special Master for the Initial Public Offering Litigation, over three hundred consolidated class action lawsuits tied to alleged securities fraud. Mr. Rabkin also formerly held the position of Deputy City Attorney in San Francisco for five years, where he successfully represented San Francisco in state and federal lawsuits related to constitutional questions, commercial matters and tort claims. Mr. Rabkin previously obtained experience with complex discovery projects during his career as an associate with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, specializing in antitrust, securities and insurance coverage litigation, accountant liability and employment claims.
Mr. Rabkin served as a law clerk for the Honorable Shira A. Scheindlin of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, with whom he since has authored two articles relating to eDiscovery. He also has published an article relating to white collar crime and lectured at the Department of Justice's National Advocacy Center on parallel proceedings.
Mr. Rabkin earned his J.D., from Columbia Law School, where he was a senior editor of the Columbia Law Review and a recipient of the Harlan Fiske Stone award for academic achievement, and received his B.A., cum laude, from Harvard University.
