Strong 3D Ticket Sales For "The Martian" Account For Approximately 46% Of The Estimated $55 Million Domestic Opening Weekend

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- RealD, Inc. (NYSE:RLD) announced today that the 20^th Century Fox epic space-adventure The Martian generated 46% of its estimated $55M in the 3D format. RealD equipped 3D screens amassed 42% of that total posting the highest RealD 3D percentage of the year. 

The performance of The Martian follows a strong summer season which saw eight 3D releases capture more than 40% of their opening weekend gross in 3D dollars including Jurassic World (48% 3D), Terminator: Genisys (45% 3D), San Andreas (44% 3D) and Avengers: Age of Ultron (42% 3D), among others.

RealD accounted for an estimated $23 million of the weekend's total box office.  RealD 3D equipped PLF auditoriums delivered approximately $4 million of the opening weekend's total.

Upcoming this Fall and into the holiday period, RealD 3D will continue to program a strong slate of motion pictures including The Walk, Pan, The Peanuts Movie, Good Dinosaur, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, among others.

RealD 3D is installed in more than 27,000 auditoriums by approximately 1,200 exhibitors in 72 countries around the world.
