Streetline Named Winner of IBM SmartCamp Silicon Valley
Company Selected by Investors and Industry Experts as Leading "Smart City Start-Up"
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Streetline Inc. today announced that it has been named co-winner of IBM's SmartCamp Silicon Valley, which brings together hundreds of start-up companies, world-class entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts for two days to work to build a smarter planet. The goal of the program is to help companies create an 'investor ready' commercial proposition to secure funding, with winners eligible for a three-month IBM mentorship program.
Experts estimate that over 30 percent of traffic congestion in cities is caused by drivers looking for parking. Streetline works with municipalities to deploy smart parking systems based on its patented low-power wireless networks and sensors so that drivers can quickly locate inexpensive parking and cities can manage their parking resources more efficiently.
"Streetline applauds IBM's SmartCamp program for recognizing innovative technologies like Streetline's that will be instrumental in creating a smarter planet and we look forward to working with the IBM team in the future," said Zia Yusuf, president and chief executive officer, Streetline.
IBM SmartCamps, launched earlier this year, judge the best start-up company in different cities around the globe, rewarding the winners with mentoring, services, access to industry experts, and deeper partnership opportunities from IBM, venture capital firms and industry partners.
"Streetline's wireless sensors and technologies will be critical to connecting the people and places that make our cities more efficient and environmentally friendly," said Claudia Fan Munce, managing director, IBM Venture Capital Group. "Streetline is a great example of a company with technology that can help make our cities smarter, that we want to help expand and grow through our deep enterprise expertise."
Streetline was selected from hundreds of startups in IBM's SmartCamp program to win the Silicon Valley event, including co-winner CareCloud which puts physicians in touch with each other across multiple points of care, through a cloud computing technology-based solution.
Both companies are invited to the upcoming World Finals in Dublin this November to square off against other SmartCamp winners from around the globe to claim the title of "World's Smartest Start-Up."
The events are part of IBM's Global Entrepreneur initiative, designed to bring new technologies to market faster, that tackle some of the world's most pressing issues such as energy efficiency, the environment, and personalized healthcare.
