Streetline and Cisco Expand Collaboration
Advanced Sensor + Video Capabilities Connected Parking Solution Enhances Detection Capabilities
CHICAGO, Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Streetline, Inc. and Cisco announced today an expanded relationship that will combine Streetline sensing and analytics capabilities with Cisco IP cameras and video as part of the Internet of Things portfolio – expanding the breadth of sensing capabilities and further enhancing detection. The announcement was made today at the National Parking Association Convention & Expo being held this week in Chicago.
The new integrated Parking Management solution will be deployed on the Cisco Smart+Connected City Wi-Fi platform providing an additional benefit of Wi-Fi coverage and potential additional services. Smart+Connected™ City Wi-Fi is a solution that helps global cities provide citywide connectivity and to establish a platform for new service development for citizens.
Streetline is a global provider of Smart Parking solutions for cities, universities and corporate campuses, while Cisco is the worldwide leader in networking that transforms how people connect, communicate and collaborate.
Last year, the two companies announced a collaboration and delivered connected parking deployments in San Carlos, Calif. and San Mateo, Calif. Streetline's sensors and parking app on the Cisco network allowed residents to pinpoint parking spots before arriving to a location.
Sensors embedded in the pavement of the selected parking spaces detect when a space is available. Cisco's smart network communicates with Streetline sensors to aggregate sensor data and the same time communicate with Streetline applications to deliver the availability of the parking spots. The intelligent network platform captures the data and publishes it into Streetline's free mobile application, Parker, which displays real-time availability of these on-street spaces as well as locations of off-street parking garages and lots along with other information such as pricing and enforcement hours.
The technology is designed to not only help people find spaces, but also to help reduce traffic congestion and improve parking management. Nationwide, experts estimate that 30 percent of urban traffic is caused by motorists looking for parking. Additionally, vehicle emissions resulting from drivers looking for parking are so closely linked that a year-long study found that drivers in a 15 block district in Los Angeles drove in excess of 950,000 miles, produced 730 tons of carbon dioxide and used 47,000 gallons of gas searching for parking. By reducing the time spent looking for a parking space, cities can take steps to reduce traffic, emissions, and driver frustration in a downtown area.
"We are pleased to be working alongside Cisco to advance the solutions available to resolve one of the most pressing concerns facing cities: parking," said Zia Yusuf, president and CEO of Streetline, Inc. "By combining various 'sensing' devices and tapping the power of the Cisco City Wi-Fi platform, we believe city and parking management can be taken to a whole new level."
"Smart Parking services have the potential to significantly reduce overall congestion in cities around the world, and create a completely new experience for visitors, businesses and residents," said Wim Elfrink, executive vice president, Industry Solutions and chief globalisation officer, Cisco. "Using the intelligence of the network as a way to connect what were previously unconnected areas opens up a number of new service opportunities. In Paris for example, the average motorist spends 4 years of their life just trying to find a parking space. Through this collaboration with Streetline, we believe the network can provide a smarter way to address parking challenges, and help create new ongoing monetization streams for city government."

About Streetline, Inc.
Streetline's mission is to make smart cities a reality through the use of sensor-enabled mobile and web applications. Streetline's pioneering technology makes the parking experience for consumers easier, while making cities and university campuses more efficient.
Already deployed in more than 30 locations in both the U.S. and Europe, Streetline's patented smart parking platform detects the presence of a car through a network of ultra-low power wireless sensors located in individual parking spaces. Data from these sensors, or from counting equipment installed in parking garages and lots, is then made available in real time via various cloud-based applications, such as Parker™, the leading mobile app for consumers, and – soon – in-car navigation systems. Earlier this year, Streetline introduced ParkerMap™, an embeddable widget that allows merchants, universities, cities, and parking providers to easily showcase nearby parking options via any website.
Streetline is a privately-held company headquartered in Foster City, CA with smart parking deployments in Germany, the U.K., and across the United States including California, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Virginia, and Washington, DC. The company was named one of Fast Company's 10 Most Innovative Companies in Transportation, as well as IBM Global Entrepreneur of the Year. Streetline was named Best Mobile Innovation for 'Smart Cities' for Parker at the 2013 Mobile World Congress, and was recognized with the 2013 Frost & Sullivan North American Competitive Strategy Leadership Award: http://www.streetline.com/smart-cities/frost-sullivan-parking-technology-whitepaper/
