DALLAS, June 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Stream Data Centers announced today that it has been awarded Tier III Design Certification from the Uptime Institute for the design documents of their latest Private Data Center facility located in San Antonio, Texas, a designation maintained by less than 20% of colocation data centers across the country.
Rob Kennedy, co-managing partner with Stream Data Centers, commented, "Stream continues to deliver purpose-built, enterprise quality data center space, and receiving Tier III certification from the Uptime Institute demonstrates our commitment to build and operate efficient, highly redundant mission-critical facilities for our clients."
Recognized within the industry as the world-leading standards body for data centers, the Uptime Institute is the only firm licensed to rate and certify mission-critical facilities using their proprietary Tier Classification System. Tier III certification confirms that every component of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure has one of the highest levels of resilience and redundancy possible to keep the new facility fully operational in the event there is a power systems failure, or if the systems need to be taken out of production for planned maintenance activities
The new purpose-built Stream Private Data Center delivers up to 7.2 megawatts of critical-load power and includes dual-feed power from two separate substations, utilizing Stream's standard 2N electrical / N+1 mechanical configuration. Designed and constructed to withstand 185 mph winds and uplift, Stream is also using accredited construction and design practices required to achieve a LEED Silver Certification.
Stream will provide a full offering of critical facilities management, and larger users will have the flexibility to control their own private suite and dedicated critical infrastructure, offering a new level of control and flexibility to the San Antonio market.
One of the fastest growing cities in the United States, San Antonio is also one of the most active data center markets, with approximately 40 MW of critical load currently under construction. The city's low cost, stable utility rates are provided by CPS Energy, the largest municipally owned energy utility. Stream Data Centers began construction on this state-of-the-art data center in the Westover Hills development in the fall of 2013, and will deliver fully commissioned, operational data center space available for occupancy in July of this year. The company also has available data center facilities in Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis and Denver.
