Ofra Strauss, Chairperson of Strauss Group said today : "We are proud to present you with the third Social Responsibility Report of Strauss Group. The importance of this reporting process lies in the fact that it forces us to measure our economic-social-environmental performance each year vis a vis our performance in the previous year and the objectives we have set. This Report reflects our CSR philosophy and is a showcase for our activities in this area. This year in particular we continued to invest enormous resources in developing products, advancing communities and improving environmental quality, with the 'beyond compliance' principle firmly in mind."
Gadi Lesin, President & CEO of Strauss Group, said today: "Our CR Report this year is published as the world continues to recover from the economic crisis, and as such it has underlying significance. In the past year we came to realize the growing importance of the duty that rests on corporations to act responsibly and transparently, while further establishing the trust of all its stakeholders. The professional manner in which we manage CR makes us a more stable and valued company, and consequently contributes to our long-term growth as well. I take pride in the fact that even at the height of a global financial crisis year we remained true to our philosophy and values, as we came to realize the importance of CR practices and recognize that a company which invests in this field in times of economic uncertainty will emerge reinforced for the benefit of its stakeholders.
Our social and environmental responsibility is imprinted in the Group's DNA, and we will continue to direct resources that will enable us to continue to be active partners in the communities we operate within, and become a significant entity that has positive affect on social and environmental processes in every region of our operation."
Michael Avner, Chief Legal and Corporate Responsibility Officer of Strauss Group, said today: "The past year has set numerous challenges for us on various levels, including our conduct as a business in various CR aspects. During the economic recession we were faced with the goal of facilitating our company's sustainability and growth, while maintaining proper transparency and communication practices. When it came to investing in CR, we chose not to cut budgets, and even increase them in certain cases, since we realized that the organizations, people and goals whose cause we serve, needed this investment more than ever. We recognized that further investment in this field would make us emerge reinforced from the economic crisis.
The CR Report reflects another level in our dialogue with various stakeholders. During 2009 we performed diverse activities that promote this field, particularly the development and assimilation of an environmental management policy at a global level, expansion of our community activity with an emphasis placed on employee volunteer work, and further investment in diversity & inclusion."
Major activities performed by the Group in the past year: - We expanded our ethics assimilation activity and launched a Hotline for employees in Israel and in the world - We made significant progress in environmental impact by launching Sabra's advance green plant in Virginia, setting measurable environmental objectives in Strauss Israel and starting projects that aim to reduce our ecologic footprint at the Achihud and Nazareth plants. In recognition of these activities we won the Environmental Quality Minister's Award in Israel. - We expanded our social investment, staying focused on Diversity & Inclusion which was defined as the corporate "flagship" topic for social investment. - We continued to invest in advancing health issues, which touch on our core activities. Within this framework we developed various products that contribute to healthy and balanced life style, while further improving the nutritional values of existing products. Additionally, we decided to invest in the establishment of Strauss Water in order to fulfill our vision of providing safe quality drinking water, which proves that even our business development process is affected by the corporate responsibility philosophy.
