Strathmore Hall Of Fame Member, Doni-Jo Minor-Munro, Welcomed To The 2017 Roundtable As Proud Representative And Spokesperson For Urban American Indians Nationwide

Doni-Jo Minor-Munro is a Native American Spiritualist who currently serves as Director of Indian Education at the Universal Life Church.  In addition, Ms. Munro is the CEO/CFO of Our Children Are Sacred, Inc./American Indian Education Programs.  Ms. Munro is Yuchi Creek (a Yuchi tribal member enrolled with the Creek Nation).  She attended the University of Oregon College of Education and is an advocate of urban Indian rights and laws.  During her interview with Corine Fairbanks (Oglala Dakota), Ms. Munro offered some valuable insight into the American Indian experience in her country.  She also explained the path which led to her present capacity as Director of Indian Education:  Doni-Jo Minor-Munro began her career as a volunteer when her son was in pre-school (early 1990s).  During one fateful Thanksgiving time, a retired principal and friend of Ms. Munro was using a buffalo hide and some handmade items to teach lessons to the area's students.  Rather than the usual "Pilgrim & Squanto stuff", which Ms. Munro found offensive, she asked the former principal if she could offer an alternative lesson.  After being generously granted this opportunity, Doni-Jo Minor Munro's unique vision and educational style was in high demand as word spread far and wide, ultimately landing her in the present position.
