Upon completing the Making Sense of Complexity course in May on the Duke University campus in Durham, N.C., Amanda Pinyan, Program Manager at Cisco, based in San Jose, California, officially became the first program graduate.
"This program was incredibly effective in helping me understand how to communicate with someone in order to get work done, while also maintaining relationships to make sure you can keep moving forward," Pinyan said. "Everyone, at every level, in any organization, is going to experience influential struggles and could benefit from ASEP."
After receiving her program certificate of completion, Pinyan also applied for and completed her distinction by submitting a written assignment to the ASEP Academic Council. The distinction from Duke Corporate Education and Strategy Execution makes her a certified Strategic Execution Professional. In addition to Pinyan, more than 10 graduates, including those who transferred credits earned from a former Strategy Execution university program, have also earned their program certificates.
"It has been a pleasure to work with our customers in a dynamic and interactive classroom environment," said Tony O'Driscoll, Academic Director of Duke CE. "Being able to workshop their actual business challenges while expanding their network provides immeasurable value to these professionals. Seeing these bright and engaging project leaders earning their ASEP certificates is tremendously rewarding."
About the Program
ASEP, developed in 2017 in partnership with Duke Corporate Education (Duke CE), is a unique training program designed to expand the mindset and extend the skill set of project leaders in order to thrive in today's complex business environment.
The curriculum consists of eight courses designed to address emerging leadership challenges. Each course's subject matter is distinct but complementary, with key concepts reiterated and woven in throughout the entire curriculum. Taken together, the courses are intended to empower leaders at all levels to view strategy, work, and people through a new lens in order to be successful, no matter what their industry.
Out of the eight courses, two foundational courses – Aligning Work With Strategy and Making Sense of Complexity – and four electives must be completed to earn a program certificate of completion from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.
"We are thrilled to see the first set of graduates receive their ASEP certificates. Their experiences have validated what we believed to be central when we launched this program: leaders today need a holistic skill set that combines technical know-how with a new adaptive mindset," said Jonathan Gilbert, Strategy Execution's Vice President of Product Management. "We look forward to working with more project leaders in the future to help them navigate our complex world and overcome the pressing challenges in their work."
