STRABAG Selects Unisys to Implement Enterprise Social Networking Solution
New solution, based on Microsoft SharePoint environment, will help Austria's largest construction group improve employee collaboration and communication
VIENNA, May 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that its Austrian subsidiary, Unisys Austria GmbH, has implemented an enterprise social networking and collaboration solution for STRABAG, the country's largest construction group.
The solution, called STRABAG connect, is based on Microsoft SharePoint 2013 and enables 15,000 end-users to collaborate, share knowledge and use social tools – such as micro-blogging, wikis and discussions – to communicate with each other and with communities of interest within the company.
STRABAG required a social computing solution to increase information sharing, transparency and collaboration capabilities for its employees, predominantly in Austria and Germany, but also for business units in Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America. The STRABAG connect platform went live in March 2014.
"Unisys' leadership in social computing, along with its expertise with Microsoft SharePoint technology, means we have found the right partner," said Marc Puhringer, Knowledge Manager, STRABAG Group. "I believe this new platform will transform the way our employees work and collaborate and ensure we get the most out of the expertise we have across the organization."
Unisys is a globally recognized Microsoft Alliance Partner that implements, integrates and manages Microsoft technology for clients around the world. Unisys is also a major user of Microsoft SharePoint server technology, which forms the basis for the company's own internal social collaboration and knowledge-sharing network.
Roman Biller, Managing Director, Unisys Austria, said: "STRABAG's decision to choose Unisys was based on the excellent technical skills of our team and the success of our own Enterprise Social Network implementation, which we started in 2010. We're looking forward to transforming the way the company's employees work, helping them break down barriers for information access, fostering productivity and delivering even more innovation to its customers."
Social platforms are emerging as significant channels for corporate communication and knowledge sharing. Predictions from Gartner1 say as many as 50 percent of companies will be using an internal social network by 2016 and that many of those companies will view those platforms as vital as email or telephone is today.
