LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Story Matter released the audiobook for the award-winning novel PIGMENT: The Limbs of the Mukuyu Tree - Book 1 narrated by Ireland's Bronagh Gallagher. The eBook format is being given away for free as part of the promotion. This story about a young African-American albino volunteer who goes missing in Tanzania and her father who goes to find her explores the plight of people born with albinism -- a condition whereby people do not have pigment melanin and so their skin and features are colorless. Albinos are believed to be magical ghosts and are hunted.
PIGMENT garners the LYRA Award for Fiction: Mystery / Suspense / Thriller by Books Without Borders and placed as an International Book Awards Finalist in Fiction: Cross Genre Category.
Writer-Producer Renée Topper described what inspired the series, "I read a BBC article on the issue in 2009 then began writing PIGMENT to draw more awareness to the plight of albinos. That quickly grew into excavating to identify the root issue below racism and human trafficking and well before the after-effects and prosthetics. How have people become so disconnected they deny their flesh and blood? What makes people so desperate they make a currency of their children? There's a deeper problem that needs to be addressed for social change to happen and it relates globally."
The paperback and eBook released in 2016, the audiobook released won't be the last incarnation of PIGMENT. The feature film script is being written and there are more installments in the works in Books 2 and 3 in the series.
Topper also commented on Irish actress-musician Bronagh Gallagher (Pulp Fiction, The Commitments) narrating. "What a gift to have this soulful, talented and skilled artist to amplify PIGMENT out loud. I'm a loyal fan of Bronagh's work and held her in mind while writing Fiona, a key character in the series."
Recorded, engineered and mastered at Camden Studios in Dublin Ireland, this is an international production. The audiobook is being distributed through Scribl. Running time is 5 hours and 28 minutes.
Forthcoming titles from Story Matter by the author are also available for pre-sale, include SUNSET BLUES: The Shadow – Justice is Relative – Book 1 and PIGMENT: Roots – Book 2.
