"Healthy eating choices begin at the supermarket for many families, which is why Stop & Shop is committed to helping customers make informed decisions while shopping," said Suzi Robinson, spokesperson for Stop & Shop New England Division. "We are excited to bring together these great community leaders to bring some inspiration to the community. We share a common bond: to help our kids stay active and be healthy."
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), childhood obesity affects approximately 17% of the U.S. population.
"Never underestimate the power of small changes in what you eat and balancing that with physical activity the entire family can enjoy," according to Lisa Burnett, registered dietitian from New England Dairy & Food Council. "We all have a role to play and the more we can get children involved in making nutrient-rich food choices at home and through programs like Fuel Up to Play 60 at school, we can have a positive impact on the next generation."
"The Hockomock Area YMCA is proud to partner with Stop & Shop to address the challenges of poor nutrition and inactivity in our community," said Ed Hurley, president, Hockomock Area YMCA. "We applaud the efforts of Stop & Shop and other community stakeholders to raise awareness and inspire families. Together, we can help families by making the healthy choice, the easy choice."
