"Stop & Shop has been committed to help find a cure to end breast cancer in every community which we serve through American Cancer Society's Making Strides Walks," said Arlene Putterman, Manager of Public and Community Relations, Stop & Shop NY Metro Division. "The progress we're making thanks to our customers, vendors and associates is nothing short of remarkable. When more walkers raise money to fight breast cancer, there will be more survivors celebrating more birthdays."
The funds are being donated as a result of Stop & Shop's commitment to fight breast cancer:
- Stop & Shop customers and associates raised more than $182,000 in total to support "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" walks in Long Island and Point Pleasant, NY, as well as Providence, RI. In all three events, hundreds of associates, their family members and friends walked together for Team Stop & Shop.
- Stop & Shop donated five cents of every pink reusable shopping bag sold throughout the month of October, totaling more than $8,400.
- Partnerships with Stop & Shop's Own Brands, General Mills and Proctor & Gamble contributed $67,000.
"Stop & Shop is extremely proud of the generosity from our customers and associates to support breast cancer awareness," said Suzi Robinson, spokesperson for Stop & Shop New England Division. "Breast cancer affects so many lives and we are overwhelmed by the spirit of everyone who came together once again to make a difference."
