Stop & Shop Customers and Associates Donate Over $724,000 For Earthquake Relief in Haiti
QUINCY, Mass., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- In a two week period following the devastating Haiti earthquake, Stop & Shop customers and associates raised $724,792, which will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund for Haiti earthquake relief efforts. The generosity of Stop & Shop customers and associates followed the announcement that Stop & Shop and its sister supermarkets would donate $100,000 to the relief efforts. Stop & Shop coordinated the fundraising drive at all of its stores between January 16 and January 31.
In a joint statement issued by Ron Onorato, Division President of Stop & Shop Metro New York, and Mark McGowan, Division President Stop & Shop New England, the company stated, "Due to the extent of the catastrophe, we felt we needed to do as much as we could to help with the relief efforts by giving our associates and customers an easy way to contribute to earthquake victims. Our friends, neighbors and customers have been impacted by this disaster. Stop & Shop is proud that our customers and associates rallied around these efforts. Our contribution will help the Red Cross provide support to the hundreds of thousands of Haitians impacted by this tragedy."
