Stop & Shop Alerts Customers to Recall of Mt. Vikos Brand Manouri-Sheep and Goats Milk Cheese

QUINCY, Mass., May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Following a recall by Mt. Vikos, Inc., The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC announced it had removed from sale Mt. Vikos Brand Manouri-Sheep and Goats Milk Cheese.  The product was removed from sale due to possible contamination with listeria monocytogenes.

The following product was removed from sale:

Mt. Vikos Brand Manouri-Sheep and Goats Milk Cheese UPC# 6 65291 00201-2, 4 oz.

Listeria is a common organism found in nature.  Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis.  Symptoms of listeriosis can be high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

To date, Mt. Vikos has received no reports of illness associated with consumption of this product. Customers who have purchased the affected products should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.  Customers with questions may contact Mt.
