Facebook, Inc. Analyst Notes
On April 15, 2014, the shares of social networking giant Facebook, Inc. (Facebook) gained 0.34% to end the session at $59.09. During the session, the Company's shares opened at $59.29 and oscillated in the range of $55.88 - $59.68. During the session, a total of 108.62 million shares of Facebook were traded, significantly higher than its 30-day average trading volume of 70.03 million shares. Over the past 12 months, the shares of the Company jumped 119.50%, beating the NASDAQ Composite, which increased 23.57% during the same period. A recent Financial Times report, dated April 15, 2014, informed that the Company is looking to foray into mobile-payment services by offering remittances and electronic-money services on the social network. Microsoft Corporation Analyst Notes
On April 11, 2014, Microsoft Corporation's (Microsoft) India-based start-up initiative, Microsoft Ventures announced the launch of 'JumpStart,' a hotline to provide startups and entrepreneurs with a resource to ask business and technical questions. The staff at JumpStart will include dedicated professionals who have been trained by Microsoft to answer business and technical queries. Joseph Landes, General Manager, Developer & Platform Evangelism, Microsoft India, commented, "Our experience has shown that a major pain point for startups across the ecosystem in India, irrespective of their stage of maturity, is the lack of real-time support for various critical queries they face. JumpStart fills a major gap and ensures that startups get professional advice that enables them to make smart business decisions." Verizon Communications Inc. Analyst Notes
On April 15, 2014, Verizon Communications Inc. (Verizon) reported that it has deployed 100G technology on its U.S. metro network, in order to improve network efficiency and meet continued bandwidth demand. The Company informed that it is using the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 9500 platform and the Tellabs 7100 in its metro deployment, which is the 'last-mile' connectivity from the network to the customer. Lee Hicks, Vice President of Verizon Network Planning, said, "It's time to gain the same efficiencies in the metro network that we have in the long-haul network. By taking the long view, we're staying ahead of network needs and customer demands as well as preparing for next-generation services." According to the Company, the benefits of 100G scalability are especially relevant for signal performance, which is improved by using a single 100G wavelength as opposed to aggregating 10-10G wavelengths. Micron Technology Inc. Analyst Notes
On April 15, 2014, Micron Technology Inc. (Micron) and Wave Systems Corp. (Wave) jointly announced that they are expanding their relationship to develop solutions designed to strengthen user protection against current and emerging threats to compute and embedded platforms. Micron stated that this collaboration is focused on the detection and remediation of advanced persistent threats (APTs), the most advanced forms of malware capable of infecting a wide array of IP-connected devices.
