Steven Simmons, P.E. Joins Huitt-Zollars, Inc.

DALLAS, Jan. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Former TxDOT Deputy Executive Director Steve Simmons, PE has joined Huitt-Zollars, Inc. as Vice President and will focus on the firm's highway practice.  Simmons will provide the leadership to expand Huitt-Zollars' services in highway planning, design, and construction management.  He will support the firm's practice that currently serves state highway agencies, toll road authorities, local agencies, design/builders, and public/private partnerships. Simmons will also support Huitt-Zollars in expanding their services and client base.

Simmons' career with TxDOT included serving as Deputy Executive Director for the last ten years.  As Deputy Executive Director, Simmons was responsible for Texas' highway, transit, toll, aviation, and motor carrier programs. In that capacity, he regularly developed innovative solutions to resolve the challenges facing the agency and its transportation partners.  Prior to serving as Deputy Executive Director, Simmons served as District Engineer for TxDOT's Fort Worth District and Deputy District Engineer for the Houston District.

While at TxDOT, Simmons was active with the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHTO) and the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (WASHTO). His service has included serving as Chair of AASHTO's Congestion Task Force, part of the organization's Standing Committee on Performance Management and representing the State of Texas on the AASHTO Transportation Bill Reauthorization Steering Committee.

Simmons has received multiple recognitions for his accomplishments at TxDOT. He became one of the Inaugural Inductees into the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering's Academy of Distinguished Civil and Environmental Engineers. Simmons' community service includes over 20 years as a volunteer fireman and emergency medical technician.  Simmons is also active in the Boy Scouts of America.
