Steve Leonard, MD, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon Achieves New Certification in Congenital Cardiac Surgery
DENVER, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Steve Leonard, MD, pediatric cardiac surgeon at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, is among the first in the country to achieve certification in the new subspecialty Congenital Cardiac Surgery designated by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

He has been certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and now adds the Congenital Cardiac Surgery subspecialty to his credentials.
The American Board of Thoracic Surgery created this certification to acknowledge advanced clinical competence in the treatment of children and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. It was first offered in November 2009, making Leonard among the first physicians in the country to qualify for this achievement.
Leonard has had a distinguished career in pediatric heart surgery and joined Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children in 2009 when he formed the Rocky Mountain Pediatric Heart Surgery practice in Denver.
He was previously at Children's Medical Center of Dallas and has more than 20 years experience as a pediatric heart surgeon.
A Colorado "native son" from Grand Junction, he completed his undergraduate work at Mesa State College and Colorado State University, then graduated from Medical School at the University of Colorado.
