Steve Cauthen Returns To Churchill Downs® On 37Th Anniversary Of 1978 Triple Crown Alongside Hall Of Fame Jockey Pat Day As Derby Experiences' Special Guests
LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 19, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two of the most accomplished jockeys in Kentucky Derby® history –Steve Cauthen and Pat Day – headline the list of attractions for the 2015 edition of Derby Experiences, the Churchill Downs® travel experience program that brings fans closer to the excitement of "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports."
Cauthen returns to Churchill Downs® on the 37th anniversary of his historic 1978 Triple Crown run aboard Affirmed. Cauthen and his chestnut colt outdueled rival Alydar in the Kentucky Derby®, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. It was the sport's 11th Triple Crown and the feat has not been accomplished since. Now the owner of a Thoroughbred breeding farm in north central Kentucky, the Hall of Famer is an accomplished handicapper who will be interacting with Derby Experiences' guests on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2, the 141st running of the $2 million guaranteed Kentucky Derby® Presented by Yum! Brands.
Day, the winning jockey in nine Triple Crown races, scored his pinnacle triumph aboard longshot Lil E. Tee in the 1992 Kentucky Derby® during a Hall of Fame career in which he earned four Eclipse Awards for Outstanding Jockey.
Cauthen and Day will visit multiple Clubhouse and Grandstand hospitality party venues throughout the Derby weekend for autograph signings and meet-and-greet opportunities available only through Derby Experiences' Official Ticket Packages. The Official Program offers customizable packages of travel, hotel accommodations, race tickets, exclusive hospitality venue access, and VIP amenities for fans, groups and businesses looking to experience the Kentucky Derby® in a special way.
Cauthen will be especially comfortable in the Affirmed Lounge, one of the premium hospitality venues named after his famed equine partner, located in the Kentucky Derby® Museum right inside Gate 1. The Affirmed Lounge will feature complimentary gourmet fare, premium bars, wagering tellers, simulcast TV coverage of the track, and live entertainment by American Idol® winner Taylor Hicks.
Access to the Affirmed Lounge is included with the Orange Grandstand Package and the Orange Grandstand Fillies & Lilies Party Package.
On Derby Eve, The Kentucky Derby Museum® will be host to the second annual Fillies & Lilies Party featuring platinum-selling recording artist, Sara Evans, and again on Saturday night following the Run for the Roses, where the winning jockey will be hailed at the Winner's Party. Tickets to both parties are offered through Derby Experiences and are also available as a packaged deal, coupled with race day options and VIP amenities that include hospitality access where the famed aforementioned jockeys will be making rounds throughout the Oaks and Derby days.
The Derby Experiences program is nearly sold-out for 2015, and with the newly announced appearances of fan favorites Cauthen and Day, Derby fans are urged to reserve their packages with exclusive VIP access, saving their spot for the 141st running.
Derby Experiences provides fans with a secure buying platform, rather than ticket brokers or secondary market channels that can be risky and uncertain. All ticket and hospitality packages come direct from the source, Churchill Downs®, and can be customized to fit individual, group or corporate needs.
The Official Ticket Packages are detailed at www.DerbyExperiences.com.
