Steve Cauthen Returns To Churchill Downs® On 35th Anniversary Of 1978 Triple Crown As "Derby Experiences" Special Guest
LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 6, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two of the most accomplished jockeys in Kentucky Derby® history – Steve Cauthen and Pat Day -- headline the list of attractions for the 2013 edition of "Derby Experiences," the Churchill Downs® travel experience program that brings fans closer to the excitement of "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports."
Cauthen will be returning to Churchill Downs® on the 35th anniversary of his historic Triple Crown run aboard Affirmed in 1978, when he and his chestnut colt outdueled Alydar in the Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. It was the sport's 11th Triple Crown and the feat has not been accomplished since. Owner of a Thoroughbred breeding farm in north central Kentucky, the Hall of Famer is an accomplished handicapper who will be interacting with "Derby Experiences" guests on Saturday, May 4, the 139th running of the $2 million guaranteed Kentucky Derby® Presented by Yum! Brands.
Day, the winning jockey in nine Triple Crown races, scored his pinnacle triumph aboard longshot Lil E. Tee in the 1992 Kentucky Derby® and went on to a Hall of Fame career that included four Eclipse Awards for Outstanding Jockey. Day will be on hand Friday, May 3, for the $1 million Kentucky Oaks® – the Derby's sister race for fillies.
Cauthen and Day will visit multiple clubhouse and grandstand hospitality party venues for autograph signings and meet & greet opportunities with "Derby Experiences" clients, part of customizable packages of travel, hotel accommodations, tickets and amenities for fans, groups and businesses looking to experience the Kentucky Derby® in a special way.
Cauthen will be especially comfortable in the Affirmed Lounge, one of the premium hospitality venues, named after his famed equine partner, located in the Kentucky Derby® Museum's Derby Café and Oaks Garden Tent at Gate 1. The Affirmed Lounge will feature live entertainment by Calvin Taylor, a former member of The Drifters, and The Blue Dogs, the renowned Americana-tinged country rock back from Charleston, SC.
Access to Affirmed Lounge is part of the Orange Package, detailed at www.DerbyExperiences.com. The four-day/three-night arrangement is priced at $2,499 per person (double occupancy) and includes a ticket to the celebrity-studded Thursday night Taste of Derby party, one of the most prominent gatherings of the week. Other benefits include free breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express South, tickets in the third floor grandstand for both Friday and Saturday races, ground transportation to and from the track and VIP Fast Access Pass into the facility.
The "Derby Experiences" program provides fans with a secure buying platform, rather than ticket brokers or online, secondary market channels that can be risky and uncertain. All ticket and hospitality packages come direct from Churchill Downs®.
The packages range in price from $799-$7,899 and are detailed at www.DerbyExperiences.com, (888) 384-7088.
