StereoVision Imaging, Inc. Successfully Demonstrates Mobile 3D Facial Recognition Technology to U.S. Government to 200 Meters, Begins Funding Campaign
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- StereoVision Imaging, Inc. (SVI) recently demonstrated its latest mobile, hand-held 3D binocular technology to government officials in the Los Angeles, CA area at ranges greater than 200 meters from point of use. The patented SVI technology allows users to view "persons of interest" through binocular optics and then capture a 3D video clip. The information is enhanced to significantly improve the image quality, making successful facial recognition identification far more likely. Additional processing, utilizing SVI's powerful proprietary software, removes background clutter and atmospheric distortions, essentially separating signal from noise and dramatically improving system performance. Improved image quality means a lower rate of "false positives," one of the most frequently cited issues impeding the adoption of facial recognition systems in commercial applications. Agencies from the Department of Defense were present to witness the first ever hand-held binocular system to successfully identify test subjects even beyond 200 meters, outdoors and under uncontrolled daylight environmental conditions.
"We are very excited about the success of this live, field demonstration and we now feel that we will be able to extend our range out even further - to 300 meters and beyond. This would satisfy requirements of an even larger number of military and law enforcement agencies" said Gregory Steinthal, Founder and President of StereoVision Imaging, Inc. "We also feel this same core technology can now be applied to fixed camera systems for a wide range of physical security applications; notably in law enforcement, retail and casino gaming. In order to move these programs forward, we have launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise additional capital to fund the beta testing, law enforcement agencies have expressed strong interest in participating in these tests. We are targeting Q1 2015 for products which address these markets."
In support of SVI's rapidly expanding commercial opportunities, David M. Carlson, Ph.D. recently joined the team as CEO. Dr. Carlson's background includes senior executive positions in a wide range of enterprises. "Dave's ability to develop products that really fit the needs of the marketplace and his total commitment to serving customers, made him the ideal candidate to help SVI achieve worldwide success as the premier facial recognition imaging company," said Tom Caesar, Board Chairman. Dr. Carlson has a BS in Math, an MBIA, and a Ph.D. in Engineering; all from the University of Michigan. He has also served on the Orange County (CA) Audit Committee for 17 years and has served on several industry standards committees.
