Stereo Vision's Wholly Owned Subsidiary REZN8 Delivers Music, Memory, Metamorphosis
LOS ANGELES, March 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Orel Foundation (http://orelfoundation.org/) announced today the upcoming presentation of the multimedia program Music, Memory, Metamorphosis, developed in collaboration with Stereo Vision's wholly owned subsidiary (OTC:SVSN) Hollywood-based Rezn8 (http://www.rezn8.com/) for its premiere at the Interdisciplinary Conference "Reimagining Erwin Schulhoff, Viktor Ullmann & the German-Jewish-Czech World" to be held at Arizona State University (March 4-5, 2012).
Produced and directed by Gwyneth Bravo with the support of Rezn8's CEO Paul Sidlo and with performances by Neal Stulberg and the Belgian-born pianist Steven Vanhauwaert, the program Music, Memory, Metamorphosis draws into counterpoint Viktor Ullmann's two final works—the Piano Sonata No. 7 and his monodrama "The Lay of Love and Death of Cornet Christopher Rilke"— both composed in 1944. In the spirit of early cinema and of Erwin Piscator's experimental Berlin theater of the 1920s, Gwyneth Bravo's production re-imagines the theater and concert hall as a cinematic space where the live performance of these works takes place inside a filmic framework, where a kaleidoscope of projected and slowly shifting montage images serves as a visual counterpoint to the poetry and music. Employing a postmodern compositional aesthetic, her film, which Robert Elias, President of the OREL Foundation, describes as "a moving and beautifully wrought immersive work of art," unfolds in thirteen, short movements and is comprised of a series of densely-textured images constructed from the superimposition and animation of a multilayered and harmonically-conceived series of visual elements.
These images, realized by Sidlo, include early black and white photography of the period as well as blurred and treated filmic stills and moving imagery to suggest the ghost-like presence and profound absences of early photography and cinema where the Bohemian landscape that serves as both the historical and poetic context of these works is refracted through the sepia-hued lens of memory in order to narrate the unfolding of a dreamscape evoked by the Jugendstil aesthetic of Rainer Maria Rilke's 1899 poem "The Lay of Love and Death of the Cornet Christopher Rilke" on which Ullmann's monodrama is based. The work features the life, love, and death of a young soldier during the Austro-Turkish war of the early 1660s and was written when Rilke was twenty-three. Becoming a huge success in Germany after its second printing in 1912, the work was carried like a Bible by soldiers fighting at the front lines during the First World War.
"The film would not have been possible without the technological expertise of Sidlo," Director Gwyneth Bravo said. "He is a brilliant alchemist who took all the visual, sonic, and textual elements that I gave him for each scene and transformed them according to my vision." Sidlo's Rezn8 has been instrumental in developing the media vision for a broad spectrum of domestic and international clients across a range of platforms that include broadcast, film, Internet, wireless and games. Rezn8 is acknowledged as a leader in broadcast graphics and animation and as a pioneer in the design and development of graphical user interfaces (GUI), company branding, and real-time viewer experiences. Having developed identity packages for Entertainment Tonight, CBS Sports, NBC, ABC, Fox, HBO, VH-1, Sci-Fi Channel and Showtime, Rezn8 has earned nine national Emmy Awards. Rezn8 has also been one of Microsoft's primary outside design sources for graphical user interface (GUI) including GUI design and development for XBOX, MSN 9 & 10, Home Media Center, Windows XP, and Microsoft's Home of the Future.
The support of the OREL Foundation, created by renowned conductor James Conlon and managed by Robert Elias, also proved critical for the development Music, Memory, Metamorphosis, which will be performed at diverse venues throughout Los Angeles this spring, including at the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as nationally and internationally during the upcoming 2012-2013 season. Major support for the premiere performance of the program has also been provided by the Center for Jewish Studies at Arizona State University under the direction of Professor Hava Samuelson.
