StemGenex Supports Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Day
LA JOLLA, Calif., Feb. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today marks the annual Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Day, which was created to improve the nation's understanding of Rheumatoid Arthritis ("RA") so that those suffering with the disease can get information on the best care and treatments available. Rheumatoid Arthritis is caused by the immune system attacking the lining of the joints, causing great pain and inflammation for people living with it. According to the Rheumatoid Patient Foundation, one third of RA patients do not respond to the traditional standard of care medications. There is no cure for RA, but StemGenex Medical Group is proud to be advocating for patients with unmet clinical needs and providing new hope for optimum health and better quality of life through stem cell therapy.
"I have lived with Rheumatoid Arthritis for nearly 35 years and this day serves as an important reminder of the challenges people living with RA face every day," says Rita Alexander, Chief Administrative Officer of StemGenex Medical Group. "Their strength and determination are what motivates us as a company to help those suffering with the disease better understand available treatment options and empower them to take control of their personal health."
In December 2016, the 21st Century Cures Act, a landmark piece of healthcare legislation was signed into law after receiving overwhelming bipartisan support. The law is designed to accelerate the availability of new medical treatments to patients suffering with debilitating diseases by speeding up the Federal Drug Administration's ("FDA") approval processes. The act aims to inspire innovation and discovery in medicine by improving patient access to safe and efficacious treatments, such as stem cell therapies.
"This groundbreaking legislation provides those suffering with incurable diseases, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis to have more treatment options when their clinical needs remain unmet with standard medicines and treatments," says Rita Alexander. "We are proud to support this progressive healthcare movement and provide awareness, which is crucial to patients living with diseases for which there are currently limited treatments options available."
