USW Local 13-1 President Lee Medley said Alameel earned the union's support by choosing to focus on issues important to working men and women in order to rebuild a strong American middle class.
"Dr. Alameel's strong opposition to trade agreements that send good, family supporting jobs overseas and his commitment to fight attempts to privatize Social Security and Medicare make him the only choice for working Texans," Medley said.
The USW said Alameel will also prioritize improving education and work to ensure mega-corporations pay their fair share of taxes.
The USW represents 850,000 men and women employed in metals, mining, pulp and paper, rubber, chemicals, glass, auto supply and the energy-producing industries, along with a growing number of workers in public sector and service occupations.
