HOUSTON, Feb. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of the company's Heroes of Tomorrow Program, Statoil will sponsor the Stars Over Texas Stage and Rodeo Rockstar competition at this year's Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM (HLSR).
Statoil's Heroes of Tomorrow program focuses on supporting talented young people in sports, culture and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to help them become heroes of tomorrow.
"For the last three years Statoil has sponsored The Hideout at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, but this year we have developed our involvement to directly impact youth with the Statoil Stars Over Texas Stage. Statoil wants to help youth reach their potential by providing the opportunity to develop their talents, be it in the lab, in the game or on stage," explains Abby Peterson, Brand Manager in Statoil's Houston office.
Stars Over Texas Stage
The Stars Over Texas Stage is a free, public, open air venue located in the Kids Country section of the carnival area at the show. This stage is dedicated to the HLSR mission of providing entertainment for patrons of all ages through great music from bands just breaking into the Houston music scene, fun sing-alongs, animal acts and more, in addition to promoting agriculture, education and Western heritage.
The stage is also where Statoil will hold the Rodeo Rockstar competition, a local talent search for youth.
Rodeo Rockstar
The Rodeo Rockstar is a local talent competition open to non-professional competitors who wish to showcase their musical talents on the stage. Individuals and groups who are practicing professionals or engage in this type of work for their livelihood are not eligible in the competition. There are two age brackets of competition—"Junior" for children aged 6 to 15 and "Youth" for young people aged 16 to 21.
For more details about the competition, including how to vote for your favorite contestant before the Sunday, February 9th deadline, check out the HLSR website.
Committed to education
Similar to Statoil, the HLSR is committed to investing in youth education. Since its establishment in 1932, the HLSR has awarded more than $350 million USD to scholarships, research, endowments, calf scramble participants, junior livestock show exhibitors, School Art participants and other educational youth programs.
This year's HLSR runs from March 4-23 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
