State's Only Verified Pediatric Burn Center at the DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan

DETROIT, Feb. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Last year at the DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan, nearly 500 children were treated and admitted for burn injuries. As a result of the spectrum of quality care provided to burn patients from the pre-hospital phase through the rehabilitation process and having met rigorous standards for specific criteria set by the American Burn Association (ABA) and the Committee on Trauma of the American Colleges of Surgeons (ACS), the DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan burn center is now the state's only verified pediatric burn center exclusively dedicated to the needs of children.

Established jointly by the ABA and the ACS in 1995, the Burn Center Verification/Consultation Program for Hospitals promotes the development of burn centers. Elements of this voluntary program include completion of a pre-review questionnaire and an in-depth, on-site review by members of the ABA Verification Committee. A written report by the site visit team is reviewed by the ABA Verification Committee and by the Committee on Trauma of the ACS.
