WASHINGTON, Sept. 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Events DC, the official convention and sports authority announced the passing of its beloved colleague, Marlene L. Johnson, Esq. Since 2005, Marlene served as General Counsel to the Washington Convention and Sports Authority of the District of Columbia – now known as Events DC – having helped transform the city through several key development projects, her cherished service to the community and many other contributions as a well-respected public servant.
"Marlene Johnson was a vital part of the Events DC family who helped lead major development projects across our great city," said Mayor Muriel Bowser. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Marlene's family and friends during this difficult time."
During her tenure at Events DC, Marlene was instrumental in the development of the Washington, DC Marriott Marquis, the lease for Apple to open a global flagship store at the Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square, the development of the new Entertainment and Sports Arena and numerous other initiatives and programs for Events DC.

The dedication she showed in her various positions within her years of service to the District of Columbia has left a profound legacy on our city and Events DC," said Max Brown, chairman of the Board for Events DC. A native Washingtonian, Marlene's various leadership roles encompass her more than 25 years of tireless service to the District, where her wit, wisdom, kindness, and passion will be forever remembered.
