Statement of Building and Construction Trades Department President Mark Ayers on the Democratic Senate Primary Victory of Kendrick Meek

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- America's Building Trades Unions congratulate Kendrick Meek on his hard-fought victory in Florida's Democratic Senate primary.  Although he was outspent by a margin of nearly five to one, Kendrick proved that a thoughtful and compelling message, combined with the right ideas to move our nation and our economy forward, can overcome any disparate financial advantage.

That is why Kendrick supported the Recovery Act of 2009, which injected more than $16 billion into Florida's economy and putting Floridians to work on roads, bridges, mass transit and water projects.  

But Kendrick also knows there is much more that must be done, and that that is why he continues to be a stalwart supporter of job creation legislation, including a research and development tax credit and legislation to increase development in transportation construction and alternative energy production.
