Statement from the Campaign to Fix the Debt
WASHINGTON, Feb. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from Maya MacGuineas, President of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and head of the Campaign to Fix the Debt:
"The Campaign to Fix the Debt is pleased that Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson have released a fiscal framework that is large enough to truly deal with the national debt – proposals that address the major areas of entitlement and tax reform. Moreover, their approach has the potential to refocus the national discussion back where it should be – on how to actually fix our fiscal problems.
"Our political leaders seem alarmingly content to lurch from one near-crisis to the next and it is our hope that this new framework helps encourage policymakers to meet their fiduciary responsibilities and come up with a bipartisan plan to fix the debt. While the Campaign to Fix the Debt does not endorse specific proposals, we hope policymakers will turn their attention to coming up with a plan that meets the principles laid out by the Campaign in order to put the nation on a firmer fiscal footing."
The Campaign to Fix the Debt is a non-partisan movement to put America on a better fiscal and economic path. We come together from a variety of social, economic and political perspectives, around the common belief that America's growing federal debt threatens our future and that we must address it. The Campaign will mobilize key communities - including leaders from business, government, and policy - and people all across America who want to see elected officials step up to solve our nation's fiscal challenges.
