Statement from the Campaign to Fix the Debt
WASHINGTON, Jan. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and head of the Campaign to Fix the Debt:
"On the occasion of President Obama's second inauguration as President of the United States, the Campaign to Fix the Debt sees a new opportunity for our leaders on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue to recommit themselves to seeking an agreement that will address our nation's short- and long-term fiscal challenges.
"As the President said during his inaugural address, we must 'revamp our tax code' and 'make the hard choices to reduce the cost of health care and the size of our deficit.' We couldn't agree more. We hope and expect that this Presidential term will see our elected leaders from the House, Senate, and White House all come together to alter the unsustainable trajectory of our national debt, forging a bipartisan, comprehensive agreement that tackles our budget gap. And we must come to this type of agreement soon or else the debt will continue to grow as a share of the economy and the solutions will become more difficult. Deficit reduction is not an end unto itself, but rather the means to ensure vibrant economic growth, achieve the flexibility necessary to make important investments, and leave a better world for posterity.
"We look forward to continuing to work with President Obama, his staff, and Members of Congress in order to find solutions to our fiscal problems."
