Statement from the Campaign to Fix the Debt
WASHINGTON, Jan. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement from Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and head of the Campaign to Fix the Debt:
"The American people are counting on the White House and Congress to put in place a plan to bring the debt back down to a manageable level. The focus of the next stage should be reforming the nation's entitlement programs, and the changes should be gradual and protect those who depend on them the most. Other parts of the budget from outdated programs to defense will need to be reduced as well, and there needs to be a major overhaul of the inefficient and anti-competitive tax code. Congress and the President need to lift the debt ceiling. The Campaign to Fix the Debt will continue working with our elected leaders to pass a bipartisan plan to reduce the federal budget deficit and get the national debt under control. Finger pointing isn't going to solve our debt problems, but leadership will."
