Statement from Minister Blaney on the attack in Garland, Texas
OTTAWA, May 5, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement today in the wake of the attack in Garland, Texas on the evening of Sunday, May 3, 2015.
"Our Government offers our thoughts and support to the injured guard and the people of Garland, in the wake of this attack.
The United States and Canada share a longstanding relationship as allies in the fight against terrorism. With a strengthened resolve, we will continue to defend our rights and freedoms, and deny the cowardly attempts of individuals from destroying our way of life.
The global terrorist threat is real. We must be prepared to face this global threat with modern tools and legislation, and citizens expect their governments to take action to protect their safety and security. Currently, the Canadian Parliament is debating the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015 which will enhance the tools available to Canadian law enforcement agencies in addressing this global threat, both at home and abroad."
