Statement from Minister Blaney following the release of CSIS Public Report

OTTAWA, May 8, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement regarding The 2013-2014 Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) Public Report.

"Canada is not immune to the threat of terrorism, as illustrated by last fall's terrorist attacks on our very soil. The CSIS Public Report details the consistent threat environment that CSIS confronts while protecting Canadians and Canadian interests against many threats, including espionage, foreign interference, and cyber security.

Terrorism remains the most significant threat to Canada's national security. This is why our Government tabled legislation, including the Protection of Canada from Terrorists Act and the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015, to ensure that our police forces have the tools they need to protect Canadians against the ever-evolving threat of terrorism.

Terrorist threats from organizations, such as ISIS, remind us that terrorism is a real and present danger, underlining the need for laws that better protect Canadians. CSIS, in cooperation with our police forces, work diligently to protect Canadians against those who would seek to destroy the very principles which make Canada the best country in the world."
