Statement from Family of Kayla Allen, Cracker Barrel Shooting Victim
CLEVELAND, May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kayla Allen, the only surviving victim of the Cracker Barrel shooting last month in Brooklyn, Ohio, died peacefully at home this afternoon at 3:40 p.m. in her aunt's arms. The family's wish upon discharge from MetroHealth was that Kayla be cared for at home, surrounded by family and friends. This wish was able to be fulfilled due to Hospice of the Western Reserve's dedicated pediatric team, which provides hospice care at home or wherever a child lives, providing pain control, symptom management and emotional support to the family.
The family has asked that Hospice of the Western Reserve issue this statement on their behalf:
"We are appreciative and grateful for the support and prayers of so many during this journey. Kayla has died peacefully at home this afternoon. She has been surrounded by family and friends for the past few days, comfortable and serene. This time has been most meaningful to us as we held her and loved her, prayed for her and said our goodbyes.
"We have been heartened by the hopes and outpouring of concern of friends as well as strangers and this has given us comfort during a most difficult time. Public memorial service information will be forthcoming."
