Statement from D. Taylor of UNITE HERE in Response to White House Delay on Review of Deportation Policy
WASHINGTON, May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following statement has been issued by D. Taylor, President of UNITE HERE in reaction to the White House announcement of a delay in halting deportations.
"I was disappointed to see the White House delay the review of its deportation policy. Every day, families are ripped apart by the Obama administration's aggressive deportation policy. In our own union, we have hardworking members who are being separated from their families as a result of unnecessary deportations. For a year the Republican House has blocked a permanent legislative solution to this national problem. House Republican leaders starting with John Boehner and Eric Cantor need to immediately let the House vote on a comprehensive solution. Meanwhile, the President should accelerate, not delay, his deportation policy review. The Administration should use all its executive authority to halt the disgraceful deportations of immigrants, especially those who could become citizens under the Senate reform bill."
