Statement from Bipartisan Policy Center President Jason Grumet on Tonight's SOTU Address
WASHINGTON, Jan. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Jason Grumet, president of the Bipartisan Policy Center, issued the following statement on President Obama's State of the Union address:
"The president's focus on immigration reform, shoring up housing finance and rebuilding our aging infrastructure was effective and constructive. These are issues that promote economic opportunity and enjoy broad public support. But actual success will demand real cooperation between the administration and Congress.
"While passing major legislation will be an uphill climb, especially in an election year, there are reasons for optimism. Recent progress on Capitol Hill, most notably the Murray-Ryan budget agreement, provides the president and Congress with a stronger foundation for the tough work ahead this year.
"The American people want action. Tonight the president opened the door, but he will have to actually sit down with congressional leaders in order to turn good will into good policy."
