Budget Proposal Invests in Transportation and Job Training
WASHINGTON, Feb. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On behalf of the nation's mayors, the President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, released the following statement in response to President Obama's FY 2013 Budget:
"When the nation's mayors gathered in Baltimore last year, we unanimously passed a resolution calling for an end to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"We can't be building roads and bridges in Baghdad and Kandahar, and not Baltimore and Kansas City.
"The President heard the nation's mayors and has released a budget that keeps our nation safe and invests in our infrastructure. It specifically calls on Congress to reauthorize critical transportation funding, providing $476 billion over the next six years.
"The budget also makes a critical $8 billion investment in job training, stops cuts to the Community Development Block Grant program, and increases funding for the COPS and firefighter assistance programs that help us keep neighborhoods safe.
"The President has come through for our nation's cities. Now it's Congress' turn: the House and Senate should put politics aside and pass the President's budget."
