Statement by the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

OTTAWA, May 29, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Canada's Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement regarding the RCMP's operational decision to release the Michael Zehaf-Bibeau video in its entirety.

"Last fall's attacks demonstrated all too clearly that Canada is not immune to the threat of jihadi terrorism. This video is a stark reminder of the need to remain vigilant at home and abroad. Our police forces work hard, day in and day out, to protect Canadians against those who would seek to destroy the very principles that make Canada the best country in the world.

I would like to commend the RCMP and the various police forces for the bravery and professionalism they demonstrated last October that brought a swift end to this terrorist act and protected Canadian lives.  

Our Government remains dedicated to combating terrorism. That is why we have tabled the Anti-terrorism Act, 2015, which will provide our police forces with the tools they need to protect Canadians and their families against the serious and evolving threats of jihadi terrorism."
