Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Awarding of the Siminovitch Prize in Theatre
OTTAWA, Oct. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - Our theatre community has a wealth of talent, recognized around the world for its outstanding achievements.
Every year, the Siminovitch Prize in Theatre recognizes excellence in directing, playwriting, and design and encourages greater exploration and originality in Canadian theatre.
This year, it is my great pleasure to congratulate Chris Abraham, Artistic Director of Toronto's Crows Theatre, who is the winner of the 2013 prize.
Our Government is committed to supporting Canada's arts, culture and heritage. We know how important these sectors are to our communities, our identity and our economy. Arts, culture and heritage represent $49.9 billion in the Canadian economy and over 630,000 jobs across the country.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to commend the organizers and supporters of the Siminovitch Prize in Theatre on their efforts to encourage Canadian artistic excellence.
