Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the death of Ruth Goldbloom
OTTAWA, Aug. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Ruth Goldbloom.
Ruth Goldbloom devoted much of her life to helping Canadians through her volunteer work and by championing various causes such as culture, health and education. She worked to preserve the heritage of Canadians of different backgrounds through the activities of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 and encouraged Canadians to celebrate their collective identity and rich diversity.
Ruth Goldbloom received many awards and honorary degrees for her volunteer work, including the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal. In 1992, she became a member of the Order of Canada for her services to communities and the country. In 2000, she was named an Officer of the Order of Canada.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish to offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ruth Goldbloom.
