Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the 27th Annual Prix Gémeaux Gala
OTTAWA, Sept. 16, 2012 /CNW/ - Canada's French-language programs and series have a special place in our cultural landscape. They play a vital role in telling our stories and shaping our identity.
The 27th annual Prix Gémeaux awards gala provides an opportunity to acknowledge the immense talent of the actors, writers, directors, and producers who bring us quality cultural content in French. Their contribution to our culture is truly outstanding and deserves to be celebrated.
Our Government recognizes the importance of arts and culture in strengthening our identity and stimulating our communities and our economy. Canada's film and television industry generated $5.5 billion in production activities in 2010-2011 and supports more than 128,000 jobs across the country. Our Government is proud to support this sector through investments of more than $600 million each year.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to acknowledge the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for its efforts to promote and celebrate excellence. Congratulations to all of this year's nominees and award winners, including everyone involved in the production of Apparences (best dramatic series), Providence (best serial drama), and Les Parent (best comedy).
