Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Renewal of Bell Canada's Support for the Canadian Olympic Committee

LONDON, United Kingdom, July 31, 2012 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate Bell Canada on renewing its commitment to the Olympic movement and demonstrating the kind of leadership that will help Canada continue to achieve podium success.

As the single largest contributor to sport in this country, our Government recognizes that the Olympic Games provide Canada with the opportunity to promote Canadian culture and athleticism, while sharing our values of openness, equality, and respect for human rights.

Support from the private sector, like that announced today, will play a key role in ensuring that Canada maintains its status as a leading sport nation on the international stage.

I would also like to thank the Canadian Olympic Committee for its ongoing dedication to promoting Olympic ideals and excellence.

As Minister of State (Sport), I wish all of our athletes the best of luck as they continue their pursuit of excellence here in London and on the road to the Sochi 2014 Winter Games.
