Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Opening of the Sherbrooke 2013 Canada Summer Games
SHERBROOKE, QC, Aug. 2, 2013 /CNW/ - Over the next two weeks, around 3,400 young Canadian athletes will compete in 17 sport disciplines for the right to claim the Canada Games Flag for their home province or territory. The Games provide an ideal opportunity for our athletes to represent their respective regions.
The Canada Games, the country's largest domestic multisport event, bring together talented young athletes from every province and territory. The participants' passion for their sport is a source of inspiration and pride for all Canadians.
The Games also bring direct economic, cultural, and social benefits to the host community of Sherbrooke, the Estrie region, and all of Canada.
As Minister of State (Sport), I would like to thank the Sherbrooke 2013 Canada Summer Games Host Society; the Canada Games Council; the municipalities of Sherbrooke, Magog, and Coaticook; the Province of Quebec; and the many partners and volunteers who have contributed to the success of this year's Canada Summer Games. I would also like to wish our young athletes and their coaches the very best of luck. I encourage you to make them most of this national sport event to demonstrate your talent and have some wonderful experiences.
